Naming this collection “Chapters” feels apt for many reasons. These past few years have had many challenges for me, and many changes for us all. Sometimes, these chapters have been full of joy and beauty, and sometimes they have been full of hardships and sorrow. However, life is about experiencing and managing both.
“Chapters” is also a reference to the new beginning we are about to embark on, where we will restart and try again; hopefully, bringing with us lessons learned from these experiences and changes.
In this collection, there are chapters of grief and chapters of joy. Each painting relates to an event, person or emotion experienced throughout the past year of my life. My soul felt a freedom and a joy painting this collection that I have not felt in quite a long time.
My aim has always been to make people smile and to embrace colour and this is still my goal. However, I need to be truthful to myself and to others. This year has been extremely difficult and some of my paintings relate to these times. Thankfully, my love for art and colour have guided me through it all and have reminded me that colour is a powerful force on our mental well-being.
‘For last year’s words belong to last year’s language. And next year’s words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning.’ – T.S Eliot
